The city is located in the northwest extreme of the province of San Luis, on the western hillside of the Sierras of Comechingones- natural border with the province of Córdoba.
This important tourist centre was founded in 1796 and its mountainous relief, sprinkled with small woods and crystal water streams, gives it a singular beauty. 
The village urban area posseses an unevenness that ranges from the 850 m.a.s.l. to the 1280 m.a.s.l. at the higher zone, giving it, from any part of the city, an extraordinary sight of the Concarán Valley.
It has an excellent microclimate (considered to be the third best in the world), with an atmosphere free of pollution and negative ionization, together with a medium temperature of 20º C, that offer the tourist a healthy and pleasant sense of well-being.
The city includes comfortable hotels, resorts, cabins and houses for temporary rent, camp grounds and a high quality infrastructure for the tourist that visits it. 
The commercial offer comprises all the categories that make up the tourist activity such as restaurants, cafeterias, craftmanship, service of guided excursions and spectacles, among others. 
The possible activities to carry out are numberless and quite varied. They are related both to the relax and the possibility of watching astounding landscapes, as to  the adventure tourism: trekking, horseback riding, rappel, mountaineering and parachuting, among other options.
