Hostelling in Argentina

An Introduction to Backpacking in Argentina

Argentina has long been a popular destination for independent travelers and, with its stunning scenery and exciting cities, it’s easy to see why.

Despite being spread across a vast landmass, it’s also a very accessible country for backpackers on a budget. Inexpensive public transport systems conveniently link places of interest, while a wide range of Argentina hostels provide excellent budget accommodation from city centers to remote national parks.
Home to magnificent glaciers, vast tropical rainforests and many more impressive landscapes, Argentina has one of the most diverse terrains in the world.

It’s a genuine paradise for nature lovers, with highlights including such starkly beautiful sights as the Iguaçu Falls, the Parque Nacional Los Glaciares ice cap in Argentine Patagonia and the salt lakes of Valdes Peninsula.

The gateway to the Andean mountain range and all the adventures it offers (including trekking and rafting), Mendoza is another example of Argentina’s outstanding natural beauty.

Although the city is relatively large, travelers staying in Mendoza hostels will find that it has a tranquil atmosphere brought about by the huge mountains which surround it. However, Mendoza also has a touch of the hedonistic vibe (typical of urban Argentina) and is just as renowned for its wines as its picturesque setting.

And it’s not just the amazing landscapes which make Argentina so popular – its cities are vibrant, cosmopolitan and equally seductive.

Buenos Aires is packed full of fascinating culture, from its cheap boutique shops and top cuisine to the famous Palermo Polo Club and impromptu tango dancing on the streets of La Boca.

Argentina’s capital is one of the liveliest metropolises in South America and backpackers will find that there are some great, sociable hostels in Buenos Aires that reflect the city’s insatiable appetite for nightlife.
